November 11 is the day to honour all combatants who offered their lives in order that the next generations could live in peace.But we don't remember just the Canadians who are dead. We remember all people who around the world throughout time have sacrificed themselves to make the difference in the world, to fight for freedom and human rights, to make this world equal for everybody.
Today is the eleventh day of the eleventh month, and at the eleventh hour (11:00 a.m.) time stops in the city and everybody looks up, seeking an open door in the sky where we can have a glimpse of the people who died, and then we can look them straight in the face and say: "We don't want a world with more wars."
It is a day when people who immigrated to Canada remember their own people and in a new land we unite our thoughts and voices with other Canadians, and we know that we have to stick together and in one voice say to them: "Thank you."
At the Remembrance Day Service in Toronto, Toronto mayor David Miller said: "More than half of Torontonians come from countries other than Canada. That includes places like Rwanda, Afghanistan, Bosnia, El Salvador, East Timor and dozens of other regions that have been devastated by civil war, terrorism, oppression and genocide. Our city is home to many people who fled armed conflict, who feared for their lives and for their children's lives." He concluded by saying: "What we need today is a peace to end all wars." At that point everybody was in tears. Lest We Forget.
November 11 es el dia que se recuerda a todos aquellos combatientes que ofrendaron sus vidas para que las nuevas generaciones pudieran vivir en paz.
Pero en estos tiempos nosotros no solo recordamos a los que murieron en la primera y segunda guerra mundial. No! tambien es el dia para recordar a todos aquellos combatientes que a lo largo de la historia sacrificaron sus vidas por la libertad, por los derechos humanos y por crear un mundo con justicia para todos.
Hoy, en el undécimo día del undécimo mes, y en la undécima hora, el tiempo se detiene y alzamos nuestros ojos al infinito como buscando una puerta en el cielo donde podamos reunirnos con aquellos hermanos caidos en la guerra y decirles "si, nosotros tambien queremos un mundo sin guerras"
Este es el dia que muchas personas que emigraron de sus paises, tienen una nueva conmemoracion en sus calendarios para recordar a su gente, y unir sus voces con otras voces y decirles muy fuerte desde aqui: gracias!
En Remembrance Day Service in Toronto, el alcalde de la ciudad David Miller dijo: "mas de mitad de las personas que viven en Toronto vienen de otros paises, muchos de estos paises tales como Rwanda, Afghanistan, Bosnia, El Salvador, East Timor and docenas de muchos mas han sido destruidos por la guerra. Es por eso que nuestra ciudad es el hogar donde todos ellos encuentran refugio para vivir en paz con sus familias". Ya casi para finalizar el dijo que nosotros necesitamos una PAZ que ponga fin a todas las guerras... a este punto fue casi imposible para todos los que escuchabamos el discurso contener las lagrimas porque deseamos paz, necesitamos paz, anhelamos justicia para todos.
