Who are you? Quien eres?

When I started teaching, some students asked me, “Who are you?” I could have impressed them with my credentials and achievements, but I chose to say, “I am a human being”.

They were puzzled by my answer and kept asking me, but they still didn’t get it. Throughout my life, many people have asked me the same question and I always see their confusion when I reply.

I could also tell them that I am a human being who strives to grow beyond my limitations, my fears, my biases, my beliefs, my upbringing. I have been gradually letting go of the old things that clash with the new things I discover. This allows me to explore my true self in its uniqueness, without any expectations, just following the natural flow of life. To achieve this, I have to challenge my existing ideas with new ones, because my desire for transcendence is stronger than my need for conformity, approval or security. If anyone wants to know more, they can read Carl Jung
